Comics

Some comics projects I've worked on over the years. Some of them were published, some of them were not, some of them never got passed the concept stage, some of them are embarrassing. Here they are, for your amusement.

The first image is a character design montage for a manga project that never got off the ground. Looking back on the concept, I could probably still build something meaningful out of it. Though it would be a little different in focus than it was originally. Also, the designs have not aged well for some of those characters. It's high time these guys got an update.

These started out as doodles, then I developed them further.

The following is a complete two page comic that was not meant to be published, but was commissioned by a student for a college comic book course. Don't worry, the course allowed for another to do the artwork so long as the concept and writing was done by the student. Things being the way they are, naturally I ended up dialogging the whole thing as well as drawing it. It's still the student's concept, though.

My first ever Superman comic.

And now you know why we can never have nice things.

The next couple of images are comic pages published in the magazine Quinceanera. The concept, writing and artwork are all mine. I decided to experiment with the art style for this one, and was also beginning to get my feet wet with my writing. It was a learning experience for me and I grew as an artist because of it.

In hindsight the artwork is passable, but my choice in fonts is questionable.

I went a little overboard with the writing. It looks bloated and reads very forced to me now.

I went through a lot of soul-searching, debating with myself whether or not to put these next few images in this post. Or to even publish them at all, for that matter. But I decided "What the Hell, life is short!" everyone's done something in their past that they're not proud of. They were learning experiences, whether we cop to them or not. So here they are, in all their horror. My first official short-lived foray into the webcomic scene years ago. Cringe along with me.

My stars. Final Character designs for Cacata (right) and Lagana (left).

This webcomic was featured in a now-defunct website.

Humor comics are deceptively hard to write.
